An informational meeting about the Douglas County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge will be 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Flory Meeting Hall, 2120 Harper St. It’s an opportunity for aspiring youth entrepreneurs, educators and entrepreneur support organizations to learn more about the event, which will be Feb. 16.
The competition is open to students in grades 6 through 12 and consists of preparing an executive summary, elevator speech, formal presentation and trade show display. Students compete for $3,000 in prize money. The students’ work is judged by local entrepreneurs, teachers and community leaders. The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2.
This will be the sixth year for the Douglas County event. During past competitions, students have pitched businesses that offer swimming lessons, resale clothing, jewelry, baked goods and pet sitting.
