Route 458 from the E 800 Road (Route 1/1039) intersection to just south of Clinton Dam will be opened to traffic through construction over the upcoming holiday weekend beginning at 5:00 PM, Friday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 4.  There will be a 45-mph construction zone speed limit in place during this period.  Drivers should use extreme caution through the construction zone.  Beginning Wednesday morning, July 5, Route 458 will again be closed for continued construction of a major road rehabilitation project.

Phase 1 work on the project has progressed to a stage that allows this temporary opening to traffic.  All project construction work will be suspended through this holiday period, July 1 through July 4.  Phase 1 work will continue on Wednesday, July 5, when the road will again be closed to through traffic.

This major rehabilitation project will realign curves, add paved shoulders, rehabilitate the pavement, replace narrow drainage structures, and improve roadside safety.  Phase 1 project work is underway.  Phase 1 work involves constructing three new realigned curves and new culverts offset from the existing road alignment and replacing culverts in the existing portion of Route 458 between E 850 Road and E 1000 Road.  Phase 2 work includes shoulder construction along the south and east sides of the road, as well as additional culvert replacements in the existing E 1000 Road portion of Route 458.  Phase 3 work includes constructing the north and west road shoulder.  Phase 4 includes pavement overlay work, pavement markings, and seeding.  It is currently anticipated the full project will be completed in late spring 2018.

Additional project information can be found on the project’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Route458/

This construction project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to King’s Construction, who submitted the low bid of $4,757,901.73.
